Booting Up: Learn to Code From the Ground Up
Booting Up is Actualize’s online coding course for the complete beginner. Our expertise is in breaking down complex concepts into their simpler parts, and we use this approach in teaching the foundations of coding. In Booting Up, we begin with the most basic concept, and teach you one new skill at a time, building you up until you have a solid foundation in coding.
By the time you’ve completed this course, you’ll be able to write your own basic software. The skills you’ll learn in Booting Up are the launching pad to further learning, such as joining a coding bootcamp like Actualize. Indeed, Booting Up is a requirement for all incoming Actualize students as part of its Prework phase.
Videos, Exercises, and Real Human Feedback
Booting Up is a carefully designed blend of videos and exercises. The videos are taught by Actualize’s founder Jay Wengrow, an experienced educator and author who specializes in making the complex seem easy. The coding exercises reinforce that which you learn from the videos, and you submit them using our Booting Up web app.
All of your work is reviewed by a Booting Up Instructor, a real software developer and educator who will provide necessary feedback to help you hone your skills. The Instructor looks carefully at each submission, as they’re not just making sure that the answer is accurate, but they also read between the lines looking for clarity of understanding. After you submit each exercise, the Instructor will provide feedback by the end of the next business day.

Since all the videos are pre-recorded, you can watch them from anywhere in the world and at your own pace.
Although the entire course takes, on average, a total of 100 hours, you have up to two years to engage with Booting Up and still receive real human feedback. In addition, the videos and exercises themselves will be available to you indefinitely.
